How it works
The Kelly criterion sizes each bet to grow your bankroll as fast as possible given your edge. Full Kelly swings hard, so most bettors use a quarter or half. When the edge is zero or negative, Kelly says don't bet.
Example
+120 with a 48% chance is a +5.60% edge. Full Kelly is 4.67% of the bankroll; a quarter of that on $1,000 is $11.67.
